What a perfect time to train our kids to be powerful prayer warriors standing in faith for god’s healing and deliverance! During the coronavirus pandemic! And today I’m going to show you two ways to teach your kids to pray that will actually get their prayers answered!
Something that has bothered me for years is how pathetic we Christians have been at teaching kids to pray real prayers! We’ve been teaching them baby prayers—now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. Or the famous mealtime prayers – God is good God is great and we thank him for this food amen! Or the traditional bedtime prayers of God bless mommy and daddy and my dog Spot. Amen!
Now if your kids are 2 or 3 years old—maybe…….. But honestly, we need to teach our kids to pray real prayers from the very beginning– earth moving prayers – prayers that are effective and move the hand of God! I’m not trying to mock parents who are doing the best they can. But we can do better than this!
Even in our children’s ministries too often we just teach (or rather allow) kids to pray soul realm-based prayers. Prayers out of their emotions or sympathy. Mental prayers—strictly out of their heads and hearts, but not out of their spirits! That’s what has to change!
Historically children have been some of the most effective intercessors and prayer warriors that have impacted famous revivals for centuries. I teach extensively about it in my school of supernatural children’s ministry.
But in modern-day Christianity we’ve let our guard down, relegated kids to ineffective prayers that seldom get answered, and we wonder why older kids think praying is boring! If you teach them how to pray real prayers, they will never think of prayer as boring again and they will actually see more of their prayers answered!
What do you think about this? Do you agree?
And right now in today’s world we need as many effective intercessors as possible of all ages. Why right now? Well, as I am writing this article we are in the midst of the worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus. People are panicking and freaking out everywhere. Fear can too easily take over. But if our kids know what the Bible says and if we teach them how to take the word of God, and convert them into prayers, not only will we see this and other disasters disappear, but fear will go away as well.
Now before we begin, I want to build your faith for the
potential of kids as amazing intercessors. In this video is another video of
kids from the African nation of Mozambique praying for an end to the
coronavirus. Does this look like baby prayers to you?
These kids have been taken seriously by their leaders. The leaders are working with Heidi Baker’s Iris Ministries. And these kids know how to pray! I want to encourage you to get the biggest map you can find of the world. Or get a globe of some type like kids use in school. But get started today gathering your children around you, laying your hands on the various nations and begin to pray just like those kids in Africa.
Kids are interceding in Pakistan over the ending of the virus. They are praying in Uganda, Zambia, all around the world perceptive parents and kids ministers are teaching their kids to pray effective prayers to see the end of this pandemic. And yes, kids in the USA are praying too!
So here’s the proper way to teach your kids to pray.
I’m going to take just a few scriptures from Psalm 91, but you can use any scriptures, and show you how to teach your kids to convert them into prayers. You may want to help your kids write them out, then change just a few words in them making them powerful scriptural decrees and confessions of faith. I’m using the New Living Translation because I think it’s one of the best for kids. You can use any version you want.
Psalm 91:2 this I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
Change the wording to, “this I declare about YOU, Lord: YOU alone are my refuge, my place of safety; YOU are my God, and I trust you.”
See what we did there? Easy
Vs 3 – for he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
Change that to: “for YOU will rescue me, my mom and dad, brothers and sisters, my friends and (______) from every trap and protect us from deadly diseases including the coronavirus.”
You can do this with the entire psalm, but for sake of time I’m going to skip around to verse 5 & 6
Vs 5- 6 “do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day, do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.”
Change this to, “I will not be afraid the coronavirus at night, nor the covid-19 germs that fly around me in the day. I will not dread the coronavirus disease or any other invisible disease that stalks in darkness, nor will I be afraid of the disasters that strikes at midday.”
And here’s how to write out vs 7, “though a thousand fall in my city or state or country, and though ten thousand maybe dying all around the world, these evil diseases and viruses will not touch me, my family or ______.”
This is the proper way to teach kids to pray. When I have done this in conferences over the years I have actually had kids come up to me and thank me for showing them how to do this! It’s a game-changer for our kids to get out of their heads and into the spirit!
There are tons of scriptures that you can use that apply to the current situation. Help your kids look up scriptures about fear and pestilence in your Bible concordances or if you don’t have one of those, then look online.
But don’t end it there! There’s one more vitally important way we need to teach kids to pray, and that’s in the spirit. What do I mean “in the spirit?” Our kids need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and learn to speak in tongues. We almost never do this with kids. And this is a big mistake!
I encourage you right now if you are a parent at home to teach your kids about the baptism in the Holy Spirit, tell them what it means to you, and lead them to this experience right in your home! What are you afraid of? Just do it! If you are a kid’s pastor, prepare to teach on this right away, even if it means putting a quick video together for YouTube if you happened to still be quarantined to your homes.
Talk to your kids about this amazing gift of speaking in tongues,
Then teach them that this fascinating language is a weapon and a tool that God gives his people to go into spiritual battle and spiritual warfare against all of God’s enemies—disease are God’s enemies. Teach them when we pray in the spirit, the Holy Spirit is speaking through us to defeat enemies like viruses on earth. We don’t know what we’re saying but He does. He knows exactly what needs to be prayed, but He needs us to use our human mouths to speak it into the earth because we’re the ones who have authority on earth.
I have written entire curriculums on this topic, and I want to give you one of my favorite sermons right now! HERE IT IS: SECRET WEAPON: https://buff.ly/2WF8Tny
This is an amazingly simple lesson you can do in kids’ church, in a video, or at home to teach kids to pray in the spirit and why –the why is really important so kids will see the value of praying in tongues. It comes out of my curriculum Filled with Power which is a 13 lesson curriculum all about the baptism in the Holy Spirit ending with eight of the lessons teaching kids why it’s important to pray in the spirit, and them leading them into prayers times to actually practice doing it. So again — what are the two extremely important ways to teach kids to pray? – whether it’s over the coronavirus or any other important issue – Number 1 is to pray the scriptures. Find the appropriate scriptures for your situation and convert them into personal confessions of faith and decrees declaring the faithfulness of God. This teaches them to stand on the promises!
And Number 2, spending time praying in tongues – in the spirit – to allow God to pray through us perfect prayers of His will on earth.
