Children Have Spiritual Authority over Demons
Spiritual authority was given to us by Jesus. He said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” (Luke 10:19) He said that spirits would submit to us in His name. The Bible is a book of spiritual warfare of all types.
So how close can we get to the spirits of darkness by entertaining ourselves with stories, movies, and games about them, and still walk in the kind of authority that causes spirits to submit to us? Do we lose any inner drive to cast out demons if we entertain ourselves with media that makes us love the heroes and characters in them? I wonder about things like that. Will we even be able to recognize the Enemy when we encounter him if we have been petting demons for entertainment?
It is possible to teach children their spiritual authority over demons, but I’ve never seen it successful when their room is full of books and games and movies all about witches and casting spells.
We can SHATTER THE DARKNESS and teach our children how to set themselves and their friends free from demonic harassment. But we cannot blow a trumpet does not sound a clear call, and expect our children to get ready for battle. (1 Cor. 14:8)
I had a thought this morning about the ongoing controversy among Believers in Christ about Halloween, but more so about topics such as ghosts, witches, psychics, magic, necromancy (talking to the dead), seances, mediums, casting spells, fortune telling, and on and on the list goes. My thought was if someone had time to sit down and go through the Bible cover to cover and count all of the scriptures that have to do with theses types of topics, I wonder how many scriptures there would actually be?
I guarantee you it would be in the hundreds! And every one of them is negative, a rebuke, a story about how someone involved in the these was destroyed, even whole nations were destroyed because of paganism, etc.
I know very few true born again Christians who don’t have strong feelings that it is wrong to do those things. But if you package them in creative, exciting, intriguing forms of entertainment…..no problem! It’s just a book! It’s just a game! It’s just a movie! How incredibly clever of the Enemy. He can get us to participate by proxy what he can’t accomplish any other way.
You need to have this conversation with your children. “Honey, we don’t believe in witchcraft or magic. God says don’t do it. Now get get your ghost costume on or you will be late for trick or treating…..” What’s wrong with this picture?
If we and our children are believers and followers of Christ, then we are to have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? (Ephesians 5:11, 2 Corinthians 6:14)
